FMS Post-Doc Symposium 2018 – Newcastle University (15th June 2018)
Dr Chichagova will be talking about Retinitis Pigmentosa, one of the most common forms of inherited blindness affecting over 1 million people worldwide. With no effective treatment available for Retinitis Pigmentosa and the mechanisms of the disease not fully understood, Dr Chichagova will present the results of a large collaborative effort undertaken under the leadership of Prof Majlinda Lako, with both Dr Chichagova and Mrs Buskin from Newcells Biotech amongst the main contributors. The presentation will include a discussion on how using patient-derived iPSCs, it was possible to obtain retinal organoids and retinal pigment epithelium cells to elucidate the molecular basis of the disease. This is the first symposium of its kind for the faculty, organised by the newly-formed Post-Doctoral Committee. A keynote talk will be provided by Prof. Steve Wilson, Professor of Developmental Genetics at UCL, who will also present awards for the best paper, speaker and poster.
